The short version
We collect the minimum information needed to run the email waitlist and, eventually, to operate your Orbit device. Vehicle footage and detection data never leave your device unless you explicitly choose to share it — we have no technical ability to access it even if we wanted to. We do not sell personal information. We do not use your data to train AI models. We do not share data with advertisers.
The architecture enforces this, not just our policy. Footage encryption keys are generated on your device and never transmitted to us. This section is a summary — the full policy below describes exactly what that means in practice.
Information we collect
Right now, before Orbit is available for purchase, the only information we collect is what you provide when joining our early access waitlist:
- Your email address, which you provide voluntarily when signing up for early access
- Basic technical information automatically collected by our website host (Cloudflare), such as approximate location, browser type, and pages visited — used only in aggregate for understanding site traffic
Once Orbit is available for purchase, this policy will be updated to describe additional information collected at that stage, including:
- Account information if you choose to create one (required only for optional cellular features)
- Device pairing identifiers used to connect your phone to your Orbit unit via Bluetooth
- Purchase and shipping information if you buy a device directly from us
We will never collect vehicle footage, audio recordings, or detection data on our servers. See the next section for why.
How the device handles your data
This is the most important part of this policy, because it's the part that's architectural rather than promissory.
Footage and detection data stay on the device. All camera footage, radar detections, and AI classifications are processed and stored entirely on your Orbit unit. None of it is transmitted to Aerix servers as part of normal operation.
Encryption keys never leave your phone. When you pair Orbit with your phone, a unique encryption key is generated on your device. That key is never transmitted to us, stored on our servers, or accessible to Aerix employees. We have no technical mechanism to decrypt your footage — not because of a policy choice, but because we never possess the key.
The mesh network shares descriptions, not data. When Orbit detects a threat and alerts nearby units via RippleWarn, it transmits a semantic description (type of behaviour detected, confidence level, timestamp) — not footage, audio, or any personally identifying information.
Our servers handle notifications only. If you opt into the cellular plan, our infrastructure relays push notifications from your device to your phone when you're out of Bluetooth range. These relay servers see a device identifier and a notification trigger — never footage or content. Notifications are not stored or logged after delivery.
You control all sharing. If your device compiles a SwiftFile incident report, it is never transmitted anywhere automatically. You choose if, when, and to whom it is shared.
How we use information
We use the limited information we collect for the following purposes:
- Sending you the single launch email you signed up to receive
- Operating optional cellular and account features, if and when you choose to use them
- Processing orders and shipping, if and when you purchase a device
- Understanding aggregate website traffic to improve our site
- Complying with legal obligations where required
We do not use your information for targeted advertising. We do not sell information to data brokers. We do not use any data collected through Orbit devices to train AI or machine learning models without separate, explicit, opt-in consent.
When we share information
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers who help us operate our business, such as email delivery (Kit) and website hosting (Cloudflare), bound by their own privacy obligations
- Legal requirements if compelled by valid legal process — though because we do not hold footage encryption keys, we have nothing to provide in response to a request for vehicle footage specifically
- Business transfers in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to the same privacy commitments described here
- With your explicit direction, such as when you choose to share a SwiftFile report with law enforcement or your insurance provider
We never share, sell, or rent your information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.
How we protect information
We use industry-standard security practices to protect the limited information we do hold, including encrypted data transmission and restricted access controls. For information stored on Orbit devices, security is enforced through zero-knowledge encryption architecture as described above — by design, not just by policy.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. We will notify affected users in the event of a data breach involving personal information, in accordance with applicable law.
Your rights and choices
You have the right to:
- Unsubscribe from our email list at any time using the link in any email we send
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction or deletion of your personal information
- Opt out of any future cellular or account-based features without affecting your device's core functionality
Residents of California, the EU, and other jurisdictions with specific data protection laws may have additional rights under those laws. We will honor applicable rights requests as required by law. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information below.
Children's privacy
Our website and waitlist are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have collected information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete it.
Data retention
We retain waitlist email addresses until you unsubscribe or until launch communications are complete, whichever comes first. Account and purchase information, once those features exist, will be retained as long as necessary to provide services and comply with legal obligations. Footage and detection data on your Orbit device is retained according to settings you control directly on the device — it is never retained by us, because it never reaches us.
Changes to this policy
This policy will be updated as Orbit moves from waitlist to shipping product, particularly to add detail about account features, purchase data, and cellular service terms. We will post the updated policy here with a revised effective date. Material changes will be communicated via email to active subscribers where appropriate.
Contact us
Questions about this policy or your data can be directed to Aerix Inc. through the contact information on our website. We will respond to legitimate privacy inquiries within a reasonable timeframe.
This policy reflects our current pre-launch operations. It will be expanded and reviewed by legal counsel as we approach the availability of Orbit for purchase, to address account features, purchase data, and cellular service terms in full.
